Episode Two: Never Never Ever

A post-apocalypse dystopia setting using the Dresden Files RPG system. Something very bad happened to the world we knew, and now the survivors are trying to deal with what is left. The game focuses on consequences and hard choices in a tough-but-fair open world that can be pillaged, explored, and hopefully rebuilt.

Episode Two: Never Never Ever

Postby Chrono » Wed Oct 14, 2015 5:35 pm

The trio traveling from the last episode arrive at the old museum where they reunite with Belinda, the woman that they had apparently left behind on their first visit. The raven, still mumbling never-something, flew into the museum and the curious group followed.

Despite the museum offering several exhibits, the group made a beeline for the Egyptian section where they decided to clear away some rubble and see what was on the other side. Sam the goat charged into the rubble, and it collapsed on him. Elijah tried to dig him out, and was himself buried in rubble as well. In fact, so much rubble came down that Belinda was also buried while Elan managed to escape with only a twisted ankle.

We managed to avoid a TPK thanks to Elan using thaumaturgy to clear away the rubble while a scarab nibbled at his ear (he has low Notice). Freed from death, the party delved deeper into the Egyptian exhibit. They did not realize that they had crossed into the Nevernever until two stone statues of Sekhmet blocked their path back to the mortal world.

Sam the goat, thanks to the fairy he had eaten previously, was made aware that they had made their way into a labyrinth within an Egyptian pyramid. Not wanting to get lost, Elan carved a little piece out of the wall to make a plumb to help navigate. This attracted the attention of a giant stone scorpion that came to repair the wall while Elijah veiled the group from sight.

Rather than wonder aimlessly, the group followed the scorpion through the labyrinth until they came to a chamber of favor. The group was able to choose between the blessings of 4 deities, though they had to guess based on the associated pictures. There was a falcon with a white sphere, a cow with a calf, a red dog with square ears, and the scorpion that they had followed.

Belinda spoke to a ghost that told her a bit about what she had seen other people pick (the labyrinth is full of wondering lost spirits). She gave some details about three of the options, but apparently no one had ever chosen the red dog before. So that is what Belinda chose.

Receiving the blessing of Set, a red dog (no RED XIII tattoos yet) leaped out of the hieroglyphics and barked at the wall, destroying the other options and opening a huge hole in the wall that let to an in-between place. The group was able to bypass much of the labyrinth using this shortcut, and the dog transformed into a necklace around Belinda's neck.

Elan was able to determine that they were in the tomb not of a pharaoh but an actual Egyptian deity: Gengen-Wer. Himself an emissary for Thoth, Elan wanted to seek out Thoth's blessing in the tomb while Belinda wished to go straight to the center of the Labyrinth. The party split, with Elijah leaving the passageway with Elan while Sam accompanies Belinda as his goat self.

The sarcophagus holding the remains of Gengen-Wer looked terrific (spelled t- double e- double r- double r- double i- double f- double i- double c-c-c) with a goose at its feet and the traditional ankh and scepter clutched in its hands. The mental barrier keeping mortals from the sarcophagus caused Sam to become a fainting goat, but Belinda pressed on and opened the sarcophagus, revealing a small purple egg of energy. And someone her irises were glowing purple as well.

Since the sarcophagus had been opened, the Egyptian gods and goddesses drew lots to see who could remove the group and secure the egg once again (and possibly obtain its powers for themselves?). Thoth pulled Elan to the center room while the mortal barely managed to keep hold of a scroll he'd found. Oh, and Elijah. He pulled Elijah back with him.

Ma'at won the lot draw, with Anubis coming in second. So Ma'at went to the tomb, her immortal powers bound by the limits of the location, and tried to kill everyone with a giant sword. Combat ensued and included player characters taking lots of damage and barely avoiding getting hearts ripped out of chests.

Belinda ended up eating the egg and challenging Ma'at to a duel of champions (date set 1 million days from now). Elan was able to pull Gengen-wer's scepter out of the sarcophagus with Sam's help. Elijah was able to find a tear in reality just in time for the group to escape Anubis's arrival.

Saved and healed by the justicator (is that right) Hope and her apprentice, who had no idea the three people or the goat were anathema, the group found themselves back in the city of Orlando. After deceiving the naïve miracle worker, the group left her to fight Anubis in the Nevernever while they returned home.

(Let me know what all I forgot this time. :) )

Hope took Elan's scepter and ankh and put them in a chest after we came back to Orlando. Elijah glamoured a bundle of hay next to the real chest into looking like the chest while making the real chest invisible. After Hope went through the rift, Elan took the real chest with him.

Elijah also glamoured himself to disguise his features before stepping out of the Nevernever back into Orlando so that the miracle workers wouldn't recognize him as he suspected that they might know his parents, and, in fact, Hope asked whether the group had seen Elijah because his parents had said he was missing. The glamour held, and the miracle workers did not recognize Elijah.
