Vote for your favorite books to discuss
It’s time to kick off the book discussion idea for NWARPG.
We’ve been talking about it in the forum and it’s finally time to pull the trigger and start it. Several people have made suggestions and I’ve compiled them in the poll below where you can vote for as many different books as you like.
I’d like to select the top four vote-getters and then go from there with another poll. I’ll also open a book discussion thread on the forum to discuss each book as we get to it.
Finally, I’m proposing that we start with A Game of Thrones. I know at least three people interested in this book discussion want to read it. Many of you already have. Others have only seen the HBO series. Finally, some of you (like me) are now interested enough after the HBO series to pick it up and read it.
Let’s start the discussion on July 13 at Mordour’s Pizza by just covering the first 250 pages of the 835-page book. We’ll finish it a month later.
I’m buying it right now to read.

I’m with you 100% on “A Game of Thrones”.
Also, if you want I could talk to Nightbird Books about letting us meet there if Mordour’s becomes a problem. They have much more room and don’t glare at you for taking up too much seating. There are other reading groups that meet there already, including a sci-fi reading group.
I would vote for all of these!
Andrew–will you be at the meeting? We won’t know until then if we’re going to have to alter our schedule, but I’m interested in hearing about the Nightbird possibility.
Yeah Emily, I’ll be there. I’ve read the book but only the first 7 episodes of the series. I imagine the ending’s pretty much the same, though. See you there.
I’m in the second chapter of Game of Thrones right now.
Hmm…for some reason my login was no longer recognized and I had to re-register. I just talked to the manager at NIghtbird Books who said Wednesday’s are currently open. She also said that if we do meet there anyone in the group who doesn’t already have the book can get a store discount. It’s probably very short notice for changing venue this week but I can lock us in for Wednesdays once I have a confirmation from you guys. For those who don’t know, Nightbird is very laid back and has awesome coffee and baked goods. Plus we won’t need to worry about lack of seating.
We’ve been asked by the leader of Board Game Night to try out a shared meeting of sorts, and we’ve agreed to attempt it this Wednesday. After the meeting I’ll ask for feedback (during is fine, too), and that will decide whether we need to move (location and/or weeknight).
I love the idea of not worrying about seating! I’ve never been to Nightbird, so I’ll be bugging you for more specifics tomorrow. The discount is a very sweet offer. Thank you for looking into this.
Oh, and I’ve watched the first two episodes of the series this afternoon, and I am very thankful that I read the book first. There’s important character development that isn’t nearly as satisfying in the TV series (or skipped over entirely).
I can check into the registration if you’d like. Just let me know your account name or the e-mail you registered with.
Nightbird/Brick House Kitchen is a very good choice, though certainly puts in firm “book club”-esque territory.
You can get a drink or a little food at BHK, but we’d have to close down about 8 or 9.
I’m open to it. Nice venue.
Would we be able to play games there, too? If not, it becomes much less interesting to me.
The hours I could find said 9, which would work for almost everyone.
I don’t know if they’d care about gaming there or not but there aren’t really tables. Also, if we’re doing 200+ pages in a week, I’m not sure how we’d find time for much else during a meeting.
actually, now that I think about I’m not sure about the tables. I may need to investigate further. I’ll see if I can get the manager on the phone and ask about gaming. I guess Wednesday is still tentative until we confirm the best night for everybody.
